Bike

After completing the swim, racers will transition to the 10.7 mile bike portion of the event.  Racers will exit the transition area, bike through the CUSD campus, and exit the football field parking lot, turning right onto Navajo Route 7.  The proposed course will go through town, past the Canyon de Chelly Visitor's Center, and along the South Rim of Canyon de Chelly.  Here racers will be treated to stunning views of the canyon as they climb their way up the long steady hill to the Tsegi Overlook.  There will be a water and aid station at the Overlook, which is also the turn-around point.  Then bikers will turn left onto the dirt and gravel Bus Route just West of the overlook, for an exciting downhill, with expansive vistas to the South and West of Chinle.  The dirt road comes out at the Thunderbird lodge, where riders will follow this road back to Navajo Route 7, turn left near the Changing Woman coffeehouse and ride back through town to the Aquatic Center.

Due to the combination of paved and dirt roads, mountain bikes are recommended for this event.

Note:  This bike route and length are pending Police and National Monument approval.  Please check back in case of route change.
